Well, to prepare for our documentary about the mystery of Col PH Fawcett- we are completing the myriad of paperwork required to film in Brazil.  And we are preparing to film in England as well, for early September.  For starters the host of our journey- real life explorer 27 yr old PhD student- Biologist Niall McCann will join us in Devon, England.  Niall just got back from 4 weeks of research, and living in the Honduran rainforest.   Previously- Niall rowed across the Atlantic Ocean with a friend in 2008, and crossed Greenland’s Polar Ice Cap in 2009.  He will use all his skills in our film, to help us track down what happened to Fawcett, the intrepid adventurer in 1925.

We’ll be filming in Torquay, Devon where a museum houses all of the Fawcett log books and diaries. After that we’ll be filming with PH Fawcett’s grand daughter in Wales to get some first hand stories about the famous explorer.  We’ll also be speaking to some “mystery guests”- people from Fawcett’s pasts, with clues to his disappearance, that have never before been revealed until now.   If possible, we hope to film at the Royal Geographical Society as well.  We have found many previously unseen maps, photos from RGS and the Fawcett family- that will be seen in this film.

Much more coming from the road- of our adventurous pursuit of one of explorations greatest mysteries- what was Fawcett really after and what happened to him?  And is their any proof today of the kinds of lost cities he was looking for?  Our trip to Brazil takes us from museum archives in Rio De Janeiro to Mato Grosso State:  Where we’ll travel overland to the very edges of the jungle, where Fawcett was last  seen and heard from in 1925.  Much is evolving as we plan this out and book our travel- more people coming to the surface with stories, theories and places to visit in the heart of Brazil…the Fawcett mystery continues to bring new clues and theories about this great adventure: filled with mystery, spiritualism and a new vision of the Amazon region today.

Post-Production Begins- Lost in the Amazon

Ok, it’s a been a week now, since returning from Brazil.  Everyone on this journey had an amazing time: for a few weeks, we were a band of brothers -the film crew comprised of Brazilians, Canadians, Brits all working towards a common goal of solving the mystery of Col Fawcett: bouncing and careening over those remote dusty back roads, taking part in ancient Indian dance ceremonies,  fording rivers, building bridges, analyzing treasure maps, fighting off bees and stinging sand flies: even dodging tiny deadly snakes which draped themselves over the rocks at the sacred Bakairi waterfalls and swimming just downstream from giant 6ft electrical eels- each packing 700 volts or more;  confident we’d solved some mysteries and shed some new light on the Fawcett disappearance and on  the Lost City of Z – we briefly met up in Sao Paulo…before heading off on our respective planes: across Brazil, back to England and Canada.  It was a great ending, but bitter sweet too- as we’d all shared such a marvellous adventure together.  And at home- Sheera, my partner and wife did an incredible job of producing and production managing this whole trip, along with help from Sandy Beck and Barb von Kleist, without whom, none of this would have been possible!

We’re now loading up the many hours of tape from the field into our editing system…and it’s looking good!   One of the nicest things about returning back from the Amazon is – one week later, no more Malaria medication!  Malarone makes you drowsy, upset your gut not to mention stress out your liver…so always happy when that final day comes up and we put away the pill containers!

Now we delve into the archive collection of Fawcett family photos, secret texts and some amazing field tapes…a 2nd journey begins to create Lost in the Amazon, a global documentary about the life and legacy of Col. Percy Fawcett.
